San Angelo City Council Advances Affordable Housing Initiatives

The San Angelo City Council has taken significant steps to address the city’s affordable housing shortage by unanimously supporting tax incentives aimed at encouraging developers to build more affordable and low-income housing. This initiative is expected to attract investment for projects that provide homes for seniors, families, and others priced out of the current market.

In addition to tax incentives, the Council has considered resolutions expressing general support for the Crestwood Terrace Apartments at 3130 W. Beauregard Ave. as part of the 2026 Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. This project aims to increase the availability of affordable housing units within the city.

Furthermore, the Council has discussed proposed modifications to the Land Development and Subdivision Ordinance aimed at promoting affordable housing by revising infrastructure requirements and design guidelines, including street widths and sidewalks. These changes are intended to reduce development costs and encourage the construction of more affordable housing units.

These efforts reflect the Council’s commitment to expanding housing options and ensuring that all residents have access to safe and affordable homes.
